Seeking Solutions to a Global Crisis

The fashion world has a significant environmental footprint, contributing up to 10% of global carbon dioxide emissions and generating one-fifth of the 300 million tonnes of plastic produced annually worldwide.

Landfill sites are overflowing with unsustainable fabrics and garments from fast-fashion brands, it’s time for change and the momentum is building.

Join us as we bring together innovative brands, industry experts, consumers and those actively making strides to reduce the carbon footprint of the fashion industry.

Fashion is One of the Most Polluting Industries in the World.

The Issue

The fashion industry, renowned for its creativity, hides a significant environmental problem. It impacts our planet throughout the clothing life cycle. Fast fashion worsens this by promoting rapid clothing turnover, leading to extensive textile waste. Synthetic fabrics like polyester release microplastics into water systems, harming aquatic life, with over half a million tons of microfibers reaching oceans yearly.

Toxic dyes and chemicals used in production harm workers and pollute water sources. Approximately 60% of clothing is discarded within a year, adding to waste. Long-distance transportation increases the carbon footprint. Exploitative labour practices in supply chains compound these issues, emphasising the need for ethics alongside environmental concerns.

The fashion industry's fast, resource-intensive, and often exploitative practices urge a shift toward sustainability, circularity, and ethical production. As consumer awareness grows, the demand for responsible, eco-friendly fashion choices increases, pressuring the industry to embrace a more sustainable future.
